“You enter the forest
at the darkest point,
where there is no path.
Where there is a way or path,
it is someone else’s path.
You are not on your own path.
If you follow someone else’s way,
you are not going to realize
― Joseph Campbell, “
Early in her wine career, L.M. Archer forced herself to work in tasting rooms in order to understand the business of wine – despite suffering from acute shyness.
While doing so, she quickly identified with the wine makers, who, like herself, took ‘leaps of faith,’ leaving behind their ‘ordinary worlds’ to pursue their passion in wine.
Similar to Joseph Campbell’s ‘hero’s journey,’ these modern-day heroes encountered obstacles, mentors, and villains, ultimately doing battle (usually in a cave), before emerging triumphant with the ‘boon,’ or wine, the ‘red thread’ that connects us all.
As a result, she created the acclaimed artisan wine maker interview series binNotes | redThread™, which proved the foundation for her Guest Presenter talk at the 2016 Wine Bloggers Conference entitled “Interviews with Artisan Winemakers: True Modern Heroes.”
As of 2015, she no longer ’embeds’ in tasting rooms, nor suffers from acute shyness – preferring instead to focus full-time upon her professional writing career.
