“Hidden Gem: Discovering Bourgogne Coulanges-la-Vineuse”

“When wine writer L.M. Archer visited the area for The Buyer in 2021 she described Bourgogne Coulanges-la-Vineuse as offering “astonishing affordability and quality, befitting their potential village-level status”. -The Buyer
Hidden gem Coulanges-la-Vineuse in Bourgogne is having a moment – again.
I was delighted to discover my previous article on this overlooked wine region referenced in a recent article by Libby Zietsman-Brodie for The Buyer.
(Also pleased to discover her inclusion of my image of the winemaker, too!)
In her article, Ms. Zietsman-Brodie interviews winemaker Magali Bernard of Domaine du Clos du Roi, located in Bourgogne’s Coulanges-la-Vineuse. Additionally, she shines a light on Bernard’s work with César, an ancient, indigenous red variety dating back to the Romans.
If you’ve not yet read this edition of the Hidden Gems series with the Bourgogne Wine Board (BIVB), please do! The series explores Bourgogne’s diverse AOC’s – many overshadowed by its more famous Grand and Premier Crus. You can read Hidden Gem: Discovering Bourgogne’s Coulanges-la-Vineuse here.
Here, she cites my take on the region: “When wine writer L.M. Archer visited the area for The Buyer in 2021 she described Bourgogne Coulanges-la-Vineuse as offering “astonishing affordability and quality, befitting their potential village-level status”.
These easy-drinking, budget-friendly wines from Coulanges-la-Vineuse offer both quality and affordability. If you visit the area, you’ll find a lot of history, a host of tourist-friendly venues, plus some unique varieties not found in other regions of Bourgogne.
Ultimately, Bourgogne offers a wide range of wine styles and price points for everyone – not just high-priced, over-lauded grands vins.
Thanks to The Buyer for the Coulanges-la-Vineuse love. Glad to see it getting its due – again!
